You know how much time we put into getting the right acts… here’s why this one really matters to us.
Every artist who plays The Sound Doctor goes through the same quiet process happening in the background. We watch, we listen, we wait for the right moment, and sometimes that moment takes years to arrive. With The Lazy Eyes, it has finally felt like exactly the right time.
This Sydney four-piece has spent the last few years building one of the most devoted followings in Australian music. Their psychedelic anthem ‘Fuzz Jam’ earned triple j full rotation and support from BBC 6 Music, and their live shows have become the stuff of legend: wild, immersive and completely unlike anything else on a stage right now. We first saw them up in Darwin in 2022 and we knew one day we’d get them to Anglesea.
They’re fresh off the release of their new album Cheesy Love Songs, a record that moves between minimalist sixties-era pop production and their usual psychedelic instincts, with heartfelt lyrics about the highs and lows of being in love. It’s a genuine evolution for the band, and hearing it live at the Anglesea Memorial Hall is going to be brilliant. We’ve also got whispers that the Anglesea Rock Choir have learnt one of their songs, so who know what might happen on the night!
Joining them is Girlatones, featuring Jesse Williams and Leah Senior, who lived in Anglesea for a time, alongside Jack Robbins and Winter McQuinn, who can also claim local connections. All four artists have played our stage before and it’s exciting to have them back and playing together. In many ways, it’s our very own local supergroup opening the night.
And of course, it’s Grand Final Eve. A good excuse to celebrate a long weekend, in a room full of people who are there for exactly the same reason you are.
We think this is going to be one of the standout nights of the year. We hope you’ll be there for it.
