Cash Savage and The Last Drinks

Having towered over festival audiences at Golden Plains, Boogie and Sydney Festival, selling out Melbourne venues, and earning rave reviews for her recent packed-out Sydney show, Cash Savage and the Last Drinks are on a mighty roll.

This incandescent live band at the height of their powers are led by their mighty frontwoman. Her potent lyrics and impassioned delivery articulate the personal-political issues of these times with heart, guts and grit.

“Next to Courtney Barnett, she is one of the most original and distinctively Australian voices to emerge in the last few years.” Daily Review

Don’t miss them bringing their epic live show to Anglesea. Support is from the wild, unconventional and ruthlessly blunt songwriter Hollie Joyce. Combining fervent lyrics with distorted and at times eerie tones, Joyce has established a compelling sound that doesn’t hold back – it’s a dynamic cacophony that sometimes strays into raucous rock ’n’ roll freak outs, while at other times deviates to the more alluring and melodic.

Milk! Records Goes Coastal

Turn the clock back to March 2018, when Jen Cloher blew the roof off the Anglesea Memorial Hall. No-one could have imagined how that humble building could have been transformed into a bona fide rock venue. Well it happened, and we’re planning on doing it all again this March when we bring three bands from Milk! Records (the label founded by Jen and Courtney Barnett) to town for one rocking show. This is one for the music fans, the people who are in the know (or want to be able to say I saw them when…). It’s a standing (get up and groove) show and it’s going to be big.

First up we introduce you to Hachiku (though if you caught Fraser A Gorman in August you may recognise the lead singer!). Hachiku is the brainchild of German bedroom-producer Anika Ostendorf, who writes and produces her home-made dream pop (think: Grimes, Perfume Genius and early CocoRosie) from whichever bedroom she is currently inhabiting.

Swept together from the ashes of your finest night on the tiles, Loose Tooth are a Melbourne three-piece who craft sweet guitar pop with frayed edges and swollen hearts. Whether they’re spluttering to life on an empty tank or hitting harmonies in full flight, seeing this trio really is a beautiful thing.

Jade Imagine, Melbourne’s low-fi, slacker-fuzz-dream pop band bathed in the glow of ’70s surf-music, was destined for greatness from the beginning. Jade McInally, front babe and brains, has been a stalwart of the indie scene since 2004 and since releasing their EP on Milk! Records her band has been getting bigger and better!

An Evening With Archie Roach

Since emerging in the early ‘90s, Australian singer-songwriter Archie Roach has enjoyed a stellar career, sharing the stage with some of the world’s most iconic artists. Perhaps best-known for his heartbreaking song, ‘Took the Child Away’, a deeply affecting ballad about his own experience as one of the Stolen Generations of First Nations’ children, Roach has released 11 albums including his most recent Dancing With My Spirit.

His music speaks the stories of his people, of this land and of the human condition. His voice – uniquely Australian and undeniably universal – resonates for us all and we are humbled to be able to share this special evening with our Sound Doctor audience.

‘[Archie’s] soulful voice, filled with love, pain, joy and wonderment is stronger and richer than ever.’ The West Australian

Meet Our Special Guest Support Acts

We’ve told you all about our exciting headline artists already, so now it’s time to introduce the special guests who’ll be opening our November gigs.

Jason Lowe is a name familiar to many music lovers on the Surf Coast. But for those who haven’t yet had the pleasure of hearing him perform, we asked him to describe his sound.

‘My sound could be described as Alternative/New Age Folk, inspired in particular by the legendary singer songwriters of the 60s and 70s. I sing and perform my songs on lap slide guitar, acoustic guitar and piano.

What I love most about performing live is connecting with the audience, and the energy exchange that takes place. The heightened emotional levels that can be experienced are profound. I reach out to an audience with my soul not only through song but through storytelling and personal interaction.’

If you take a look at this clip you’ll understand just what Jason means.

If it’s heavenly harmonies you’re after then it’s Broads you want to hear. We asked Kelly and Jane to tell us how they got started together and what they love about performing intimate shows – like you’ll experience when they come to Anglesea.

‘We were singing together for about 10 years before we decided to start Broads. We were one half of an acappella band called The Nymphs, but also got around as guest singers and backing vocalists for a whole bunch of different bands in Melbourne. It was a long time coming, but we eventually knew we had to create our own project.

We love intimate shows because the best feeling as a performer is when you really connect with an engaged audience. We often play with a full band these days, but being able to go back to our original form, as an acoustic duo, and create something personal and raw is such a rush. It’s why we do what we do!’

Check out their dreamy sound here!

Forget the horses on Cup weekend – you’ll be backing a winner with The Sound Doctor!

An Evening with Fraser A. Gorman

Fraser A. Gorman might be a familiar name to Surf Coast locals. He grew up in Torquay and played in a high school garage rock band at many local venues and around the country. After touring the world three-times over with his critically-acclaimed 2015 debut album he took some time out from music – but now he’s back armed with a brand-new album and off on a national tour that includes this special ‘homecoming’ gig. Fraser’s songwriting builds around his ability to convey his life, hopes and fears openly with sun-drenched tones and lyrical wit. His new album has a warm and timeless feel – think laid-back Americana with a driving pop sensibility.

Supporting him on the night is another incredibly talented local, Bec Goring. This electrifying guitarist and singer plays music that blurs the boundaries between blues and jazz.

An Evening with Emma Pask

We’re planning a very classy night out in Anglesea with award-winning vocalist Emma Pask. Described by James Morrison as ‘the greatest gift to Australian jazz vocals in the last decade’, Emma has performed for adoring audiences including the late Princess Diana and Princess Mary of Denmark. She even sang at Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s wedding and Latin superstar Ricky Martin is a huge fan. She is sure to delight audiences as she interweaves storytelling through timeless swinging jazz standards, upbeat Latin rhythms, tender ballads and some raucous blues.

Supporting her on the night will be local jazz outfit The Stills performing music to get you in the mood!

To make the evening just that bit more memorable we’ve invited The Ugly Cousin pop up bar to mix up some cocktails with Great Ocean Road Gin. Pre-order yours when you book your tickets.
