MEET MERPIRE …
Supporting Liz Stringer on Friday 4 June

Merpire, the moniker of Melbourne-based artist Rhiannon Atkinson-Howatt, writes music living somewhere between the rom-com and horror movie sections in her mind. Off the back of her independent, debut EP release in 2018 she showcased at Bigsound and sold out her Endless Chatter EP tour. By the end of 2019, Merpire had accrued an impressive list of supports including Julia Jacklin, Angie McMahon, Didirri and Gengahr (UK).
A Merpire live show flows between intimate pop ballads and fully immersive alt-indie heart-shakers. Have a listen here: https://youtu.be/iDO6VTwN8c0

MEET LIBBY STEEL … Supporting Kim Churchill on Saturday 5 June

Libby Steel is an alternative pop singer-songwriter based on the Surf Coast. Known for her strong soulful vocals, she has taken her explosive set across the country, supporting acts like San Cisco, Harts, Taylor Henderson and more. Music to our ears

Our first shows since October 2019 happened over the weekend and they were incredible! Obviously things looked a bit different but the sound quality and the calibre of incredible artists was the same as it’s always been. It really was an amazing weekend – and we hope if you got to experience you loved it too.

We’re not ones to rest on our laurels. It’s time to look to June and to announce the next artists to be hitting the Anglesea Memorial Hall stage!

On Friday 4 June Liz Stringer kicks off her sixth album tour right here in Anglesea. We had hoped to see Liz as part of Dyson Stringer Cloher last year so we’re extra excited to have her coming again with an all new band line-up and her brand-new album.

Tickets went on sale this morning and we have a feeling this one will sell out very quickly so don’t delay in securing yours.

On Saturday 5 June talented multi-instrumentalist Kim Churchill swings by as he tours regional Australia to celebrate his 4-part EP collection I Am Forgetting The End Again. Hear songs from his recording travels in this beautiful night of stories and sonic adventures supported by Surf Coast rocket Libby Steel.

Tickets are on sale now so don’t miss out!

We’re in an ever changing events world!
At the moment our June shows are being sold as all seated gigs where you will only be able to sit with the group you book with, with an appropriate distance set up between you and the patrons around you. At this stage you will still need the name and contact number of everyone in your group to make your booking. Should things change we’ll update you – hey we may even be able to fit more ticket buyers in and we may even be able to dance!

We’re Back!

It’s been 491 days since we put on a show in Anglesea but we’ll be back on stage over three nights in March.

We can’t quite believe it’s happening (and let’s face it, in this current world of uncertainty we can’t be sure it actually will happen until we hit the stage on the night) but yes, we have a fantastic line-up planned. Direct links to tickets here. Read on for more about the lineup.

Buy Tickets to An Evening with Emma Donovan & The Putbacks – $50

It’s probably easiest to describe C.W. Stoneking as a ‘blues artist,’ but the term disguises what makes his music special. There’s so much in there  – a 1920s pre-war blues sound with almost equal helpings of New Orleans jazz, jug band music, hokum, country and calypso, and he’s lately brought in elements of jump jive, early rock ’n’ roll and gospel.

He’ll be supported on the night by  local powerhouse Nathan Seeckts, a singer songwriter who effortlessly fuses the sounds of folk, country and blues delivering them with a commanding voice that is equal parts gravel and passion.

See C.W. Stoneking on Thursday 18 March. Tickets $55.

A Friday Night Double Header on Friday 19 March featuring Jess Locke + Bones and JonesTickets just $35!

Melbourne artist Jess Locke is known for penning indie pop tracks that are at times subtle and full of melancholy, at times delivered with an acerbic tongue, but always steeped heavily in narrative. Her raw and honest storytelling and poetic inclinations have seen her heralded as pushing her way to the front of the pack of talented Aussie artists.

Over several years, dynamic six-piece Bones and Jones have emerged as one of Melbourne’s most exciting and energetic bands. The silky blend of swaying drums, roaring lap steel and driven organ paint the picture of the immense live sound they are so well known for.

An Evening with Emma Donovan & The Putbacks rounds out the Sound Doctor’s first weekend back.
Sound Doctor fans who saw Mission Songs Project will remember the incredible voice of acclaimed Indigenous performer Emma Donovan. We’re bringing her back to Anglesea with her band for a night of pure soul.

Emma’s songwriting is optimistic, impassioned and bruisingly honest. The music of Melbourne rhythm combo The Putbacks is fluid, live and raw. Together they burst on to the Australian scene in 2014, and the collaboration has won friends and admirers all over the world.

Support on the night is from star on the rise Kee’ahn. With a name coming from the Wik people, meaning to dance, to sing, to play, Kee’ahn aims to honour her name and Ancestors through her soulful music that weaves lush melodies and words reminiscent of heartbreak and healing.

Tickets are $50.

Remember capacities for these shows are very limited so you will need to get in quick to secure your tickets. All gigs will be seated and you will only be able to sit with the group you book with, with an appropriate distance set up between you and the patrons around you.

Turns out you can stop the music!

Dear Sound Doctor supporters – Turns out you can stop the music!

We are sorry to be announcing that unfortunately our upcoming March shows will no longer go ahead. At this time it doesn’t seem right to be risking anyone’s health even when music might seem to be exactly the tonic we need.

We fully support our artists’ decision to cancel their tours and we will be in touch with ticketholders as soon as possible to arrange refunds. It is unlikely these shows will be rescheduled but we hope to be able to bring you more great music when the time is right.

Thanks to everyone for the ongoing support of The Sound Doctor Presents. We encourage you to extend that support to our artists at this tough time by buying merch – they all have great albums out!

Do you want the good news or the bad news?

If you haven’t got tickets to our Friday 27 and Saturday 28 shows at the end of March, for Dyson Stringer Cloher and Seeker Lover Keeper respectively, then unfortunately you’ve missed out!

But the good news is that we’ve managed to snag Dyson Stringer Cloher for an extra show who will now bring their awesome songs to Anglesea on Thursday 26 March, as well as the sold out Friday 27. We’re making this one a little more intimate with seating and standing options but the vibe will be just as great, especially with support from George Carroll Wilson’s exhilarating solo project Pollyman. Don’t miss out this time around – get your tickets now!

While you’re here, make sure you sign up to our mailing list – this way you’ll be the first to know about upcoming shows and get first access to tickets. Let your friends know too!

If you’re hoping to find a ticket to our Sold Out shows, the best bet is to head to our Facebook page and post a request on the specific Event. If you’ve got one to sell we recommend heading there too. As always, be cautious about buying and selling tickets and please do not pay or sell at more than the ticket price.
